Who is Rishi Sunak? British politician of Indian descent Rishi Sunak was elected without opposition to lead the Conservative Party in Britain. With this, he succeeded outgoing Prime Minister Liz Truss as leader of the United Kingdom.
Rishi Sunak won the presidency as the 57th prime minister of the UK on Tuesday. The 42-year-old is the youngest of all of his predecessors except William Pitt the Younger.
Rishi Sunak will serve as both the first Hindu prime minister and the first person of colour to lead the UK.

Parents from India who had immigrated to the UK from east Africa gave birth to Sunak in Southampton in 1980. His father was a general practitioner and his mother was a pharmacist. Rishi Sunak attended the boarding school Winchester College before attending Oxford University and Stanford University in the United States to study philosophy, politics, and economics as well as business. As Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, he is now the first Asian-born British leader.
Mr. Sunak was first chosen as a member of parliament in 2015, representing Richmond in North Yorkshire. He soon became the first chancellor or finance minister under Boris Johnson in February 2020.
