Who Is Teghbir Singh? Meet 5-Year-Old Punjabi Boy Who Set a Record on Mount Kilimanjaro

In a remarkable feat of determination and bravery, 5-year-old Teghbir Singh from Ropar, Punjab, has etched his name in history as the youngest individual from Asia to scale the towering 5,895-metre Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. This awe-inspiring journey took place in Tanzania, with Teghbir embarking on his ambitious climb on August 18 and triumphantly reaching the summit at Uhuru Peak on August 23.

Who Is Teghbir Singh?

Mount Kilimanjaro presents numerous challenges, particularly the risk of altitude sickness, which often hinders even seasoned climbers. However, young Teghbir defied the odds, tackling each obstacle with determination and resilience. Despite the biting cold of minus 10 degrees Celsius at the summit, he fulfilled his dream of standing atop Africa’s highest point.

Upon reaching the peak, Teghbir was awarded a mountain climbing certificate by the conservation commissioner of Tanzania National Parks, which oversees the Kilimanjaro National Park. This achievement not only marks a significant milestone for Teghbir but also places him alongside Serbian boy Ognjen Živković, who similarly scaled Mount Kilimanjaro at the age of five on August 6, 2023.

Teghbir's success story is a testament to the power of guidance and support. He attributes his achievement to his dedicated coach, Bikramjit Singh Ghuman, a retired handball coach, and the unwavering encouragement from his family. His father, Sukhinderdeep Singh, who accompanied him on this daring adventure, shared insights into the rigorous preparation that paved the way for this success. “Teghbir started preparing for this feat almost a year ago. He was trained by Ghuman, who coached him with exercises to boost cardiovascular health and increase lung capacity. Weekly treks to various hilly terrains with his coach and me were integral to his training,” he explained.

This isn't Teghbir's first attempt at high-altitude adventure; in April this year, he completed the Mount Everest base camp trek, further showcasing his extraordinary potential at such a tender age.

Teghbir is expected to return to India on August 30, where he will undoubtedly be celebrated as a young hero who has inspired many with his incredible achievements.
