Call Me Bae: Ananya is the Gen Z Poo; Karan Johar Draws Parallels Between Ananya Panday's Bae and Kareena's Iconic Poo

Karan Johar On Ananya Panday's upcoming show Call Me Bae says, “If I had to describe it, I’d say that Call Me Bae is like the next chapter of Poo’s life. Imagine if Poo and Rohan Raichand had a daughter; she would be Bae. Bae is a Gen Z 2.0 version of Poo—where Poo’s story ended, Bae’s begins.”

Call Me Bae: Ananya is the Gen Z Poo; Karan Johar Draws Parallels Between Ananya Panday's Bae and Kareena's Iconic Poo

In the world of streaming, a new series backed by the iconic filmmaker Karan Johar is making waves. Titled Call Me Bae, the show features Ananya Panday as a privileged South Delhi socialite, Bae, who finds herself suddenly cut off from her wealthy family. Thrust into the unfamiliar terrain of Mumbai, Bae must navigate life without the luxuries she’s always known, struggling to carve out her own identity in the vibrant city.

Karan Johar Refers Ananya Panday As Poo's Next Gen

The storyline might remind some of a character Johar introduced years ago—Kareena Kapoor Khan’s iconic Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Johar himself drew this comparison, saying, “If I had to describe it, I’d say that Call Me Bae is like the next chapter of Poo’s life. Imagine if Poo and Rohan Raichand had a daughter; she would be Bae. Bae is a Gen Z 2.0 version of Poo—where Poo’s story ended, Bae’s begins.”

Karan Johar emphasizes that while Bae might initially seem all about fashion and fun, there’s more to her character. “Like Poo, who added emotional depth to the story, Bae too brings layers of meaning. The series might appear light-hearted, but it carries a deeper message,” he shared.

Call Me Bae promises to be a captivating mix of humor, style, and heartfelt moments, as Bae embarks on a journey of self-discovery. The series features an ensemble cast, including Muskkaan Jaferi, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, and Vir Das. Set to premiere on Prime Video in multiple languages starting September 6, it’s a story that speaks to the challenges and triumphs of finding oneself in a world that’s ever-changing.
