During his visit to the school, Fahadh recounted, “While walking through the premises of the school, I inquired whether it’s easy to cure ADHD. I was told, if diagnosed in childhood, it is possible. I asked whether it could be cured if diagnosed at 41. That’s when I was clinically diagnosed with ADHD.” His openness about his diagnosis highlights the importance of awareness and understanding of mental health issues.
Fahadh Faasil expressed his full support for the school and its mission, emphasizing the need for more facilities like Peace Valley School to support individuals with special needs.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that typically appears in childhood but can persist into adulthood. It is characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning or development.
The exact cause of ADHD is not known, but several factors are believed to contribute to its development:
Genetics: ADHD often runs in families, suggesting a genetic link.
Brain Structure and Function: Differences in brain structure and activity levels in certain areas of the brain are associated with ADHD.
Environmental Factors: Exposure to environmental toxins, smoking, alcohol use during pregnancy, and premature birth may increase the risk of developing ADHD.
ADHD symptoms can vary but generally include:
Inattention: Difficulty sustaining attention, frequent careless mistakes, difficulty organizing tasks, and often losing things.
Hyperactivity: Excessive fidgeting, difficulty staying seated, running or climbing in inappropriate situations, and talking excessively.
Impulsivity: Interrupting others, difficulty waiting for turns, and making hasty decisions without considering consequences.
Hyperfocus: Sometimes individuals with ADHD can become intensely focused on a task that interests them, to the exclusion of other activities.
While there is no cure for ADHD, various treatments and strategies can help manage the symptoms:
Behavioural Therapy: Teaching coping strategies and skills to manage behaviour and emotions.
Medication: Stimulant and non-stimulant medications can help manage symptoms in many individuals.
Education and Support: Providing information and support to individuals and families about ADHD can help them better understand and manage the condition.
Lifestyle Changes: Regular physical activity, a healthy diet, and good sleep hygiene can support overall well-being and symptom management.
Fahadh Faasil’s public confession about his ADHD diagnosis underscores the importance of addressing mental health issues openly and compassionately. By sharing his story, he hopes to inspire others to seek help and support for their mental health challenges.
