Tokyo Olympics 2020: Mirabai Chanu might be awarded with Gold Medal if China's Zhihui Hou fails doping test!

Anti-doping authorities will test China weightlifter Zhihui Hou, who won the gold medal in weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Saturday. if She fails, then India's Mirabai Chanu would be awarded the gold medal.

China's Zhihui Hou has been requested to stay in Tokyo until the test is completed, according to reports. Hou won gold with a total weight of 210kg on Saturday, creating a new Olympic record.

While Olympic medalists are routinely subjected to doping testing, Zhihui's case involves an adverse analytical finding, which means tests will be performed to see if anything abnormal was found in the first sample.

If an athlete fails a doping test, the athlete who earned silver is granted gold, according to the regulations.

After winning silver in the Women's 49kg event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Mirabai Chanu became India's first medalist.

During her four successful tries, she lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk).

Meanwhile, Chanu became the second Indian weightlifter to earn an Olympic medal with silver, following Karnam Malleswari's bronze in the 69kg division at the 2000 Sydney Games.
