Shah Rukh Khan stopped at Mumbai Airport, fined Rs 6.83 L
SRK stopped at Mumbai Airport: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was stopped for hours by the Customs Department at Mumbai Airport Friday night over some luxury watches that he and those accompanying him were carrying in their baggage.
As per the sources, he had to pay Rs 6.83 lakh in Customs Duty before being allowed to leave the airport.
The incident took place at 12.30 am after Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan landed at the Mumbai airport from Dubai in a chartered flight. An official said the payment counter at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) was not operational in the early hours.
When the baggage of the actor and his team members was screened, custom officials found six expensive watches in a bags, the official added. As per the evaluation carried out by the customs, the expensive watches were worth Rs 17.86 lakh. The bag containing these expensive watches was carried by the actor's bodyguard Ravi Shankar Singh.
Shah Rukh Khan and his team were stopped at the GAT, which a VIP terminal, for about an hour.
It is learnt that since the customs duty payment counter at the GAT was not operational in the early hours, officials took his bodyguard Ravi Shankar Singh with them to Terminal-II of the Mumbai airport, where Rs 6.88 lakh was paid towards the duty for the watches.
