"To expand this cult movie, the original Hera Pheri gang comes together yet again. Despite having had numerous meetings to discuss the script over the past few months, the crew is now convinced that Hera Pheri 3 will live up to all the buzz and anticipation surrounding the film's third installment. According to a person familiar with the situation, everyone involved in the project—from producer Firoz Nadiadwala to performers Akshay, Paresh, and Suniel—is enthusiastic about returning to the set as Raju, Shyam, and Baburao.

In 2000, the series' first film was released. Tabu, Om Puri, and Gulshan Grover also featured in the cult comedy. Neera Vora wrote the screenplay for Priyadarshan's Hera Pheri. Ramji Rao Speaking, a Malayalam movie, was remade for the Hindi language (1989). The follow-up, Phir Hera Pheri, which came out in 2006, also included Akshay, Suniel, and Paresh. The third movie had been directed by the scripter Neeraj, but due to his tragic passing in 2017, it was put on hold for a considerable amount of time.
