Proud Moment! At 103, Sardarni Maan Kaur Receives ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020’

Nari Shakti Puraskar is an initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development to acknowledge the exceptional contribution made by woman, to celebrate their achievements as game changer in the society.

This year on International Women’s Day, one such woman who was conferred with the award was the 103 years old Sardarni Maan Kaur of Patiala, Punjab.

Known as 'Miracle from Chandigarh', Maan Kaur started her athletic career at the age of 93. She won four Gold (Track and Field) at World Masters Athletic Championship, Poland and has set a record by becoming the world's fastest centenarian at the American Masters Game, 2016.

She has also been associated with Fit India Movement and is the oldest person to walk along the top of Auckland's Sky Tower.

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind took to his Twitter handle to salute to Sardarni Maan Kaur. He wrote: “President Kovind presented the Nari Shakti Puraskar to Sardarni Maan Kaur.

Known as ‘Miracle from Chandigarh’, she started her athletic career at the age of 93. She has won more than 20 medals across the globe and has been associated with the Fit India movement. #SheInspiresUs”

She is a hard worker to the core as she wakes up at around 4’o clock in the morning and then starts off with her regular practice of running and also walking. Apparently, she runs 20 kms a day, which is a lot even for a young person.

The government confers the Nari Shakti Puraskar every year to recognise the relentless service of women towards the cause of women empowerment and social welfare.
