What is OTT full form and what is the new rule? After the Covid-19 pandemic hit the entire world, the 'new normal' led to several changes in the film industry, especially in India. While cinema halls across the country were shut, a lot of films were being released directly on OTT platforms. Now, people often keep an eye on movies' OTT release date, this week or month.
Soon after theatres reopened, it was feared that the business of the film industry would take time to come back on track.

A lot of people wonder what is the full form of OTT and often search for movies' OTT release date, this week or month. OTT's full form is over-the-top which means providing television and film content over the internet.
Thus, the filmmakers were releasing their films on OTT only after four weeks after their theatrical release.

Earlier, the films used to follow the eight-week rule but with the streaming giants paying more for films premiering on their platforms as soon as possible after theatrical release, the four-week window rule was brought in by all parties.
It aimed at compensating the producers who were suffering due to lower revenue from the box office.

Now that the film industry seems to be on track, various stakeholders decided to adhere to the earlier arrangement of releasing the films online only after eight weeks of theatrical release.
The eight-week rule will come into effect from August 1 which means all the films will stream on OTT platforms after eight weeks of theatrical release. The latest movies to be released after August 1 include Raksha Bandhan, Laal Singh Chaddha, Liger, Brahmastra etc.
