While Bollywood was facing boycott calls on social media, now the South film industry is facing the same with the Vijay Deverakonda-starrer 'Liger' becoming the latest victim of the trend.

The film is backed by Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. Helmed by Puri Jagannadh, 'Liger' features Vijay Deverakonda, and Ananya Panday in the lead roles.

'Liger' is much-awaited sports drama that is all set to release on August 25. Shockingly, '#BoycottLigerMovie' has started trending on Twitter ahead of its theatrical release.

As per the netizens, there are a lot of reasons behind the 'Liger' ban. Those who are calling for a boycott of the Telugu film 'Liger' are giving Karan Johar's involvement as one of the major reasons behind the call for a boycott.

One of the users commented, "I will boycott the film. Vijay Deverakonda shouldn't be associated with Karan Johar or any other from Bollywood."

Another one said, "Dear Vijay, you don't know but Bollywood always disrespects our culture and the Bollywood actor always gives statements that hurt people. A person calls himself a star because of people."

Likewise, another user wrote, "Boycott Liger Movie. Whoever will try to protect this shitty URDUWOOD will be straight away sent to the list of BOYCOTT! We are not here to do CHARITY to their families, we want GOOD CONTENT and NATIONALISTIC movies!!!"

Before 'Liger',  Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha', Akshay Kumar's 'Raksha Bandhan', Taapsee Pannu's 'Dobaaraa' and the yet-to-be-released Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' have been facing a call for boycott citing various reasons.
