No win for India at Oscars 2022! India has been waiting for a long time. This year India had a chance to win but the Indian documentary 'Writing with Fire' lost as 'Summer of Soul' won the Oscars in the 'Best Documentary Feature' category.
'Writing with Fire' was India's first documentary to bag an Oscar nomination in the 'Best Documentary Feature' category. The documentary is made by Delhi-based filmmakers Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh.

After being nominated for the Oscars, Sushmit Ghosh had said that this was a massive moment for India and for the Indian cinema. Indeed it was because it was for the first time an Indian documentary was nominated for an Academy Award.

The documentary had already made history. The documentary film was all about fearless Dalit women journalists who readdressed what being powerful means, being the perfect example of a story of the modern Indian woman.

India's documentary film 'Writing with Fire', which couldn't make it to win at Oscars 2022, tells the story of a group of courageous Dalit women who run their own newspaper titled 'Khabar Lahariya' in Bundelkhand.
The other nominations in the 'Best Documentary Feature' category were 'Summer of Soul' (the one that bagged the Oscar), 'Ascension', 'Attica' and 'Flee'.
