Oscars 2023: From 'Naatu Naatu' to 'The Elephant Whispers' India shines on the nominations list

Oscar nominations news: Oscar award brings too much curiosity and fun to entertainment enthusiasts from all over the world. Oscar 2023 is nothing different. Indian cinema has an important role in it too.

Every year the Oscar nominations are selected through a choice of votes by thousands of its members belonging to many directing branches who are given a right to vote in their belonging category.

This time four nominees from Indian cinema are sent for the Academy award categories. Director Pan Nalins’s Gujarati film called ‘Chhello Show’ or ‘the last film’ is nominated for the ‘best International feature film’ that will be competing with other top-notch movies from all over the globe.

Under ‘the documentary feature category’ Shaunak Sen’s – ‘All that breathes’, the starring story of two brothers from Delhi dedicating their lives to the birds especially ‘black kite’. The documentary also won the ‘Golden Eye Award’ at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, in 2022.

Further, ‘Elephant Whisperers’ is next in the nominees. The Tamil movie showcases an undeniable bond of an elephant called Raghu with its caretaking couple selected under the short film category.

However, another from the South, SS Rajamouli’s epic masterpiece RRR was shortlisted for the Best Original song category – 'NaatuNaatu' with its tough competitors from the West including the theme song of “Avatar- The way of water” and Wakanda forever from ‘Black Panther’. It is very interesting for RRR’s song to be nominated for The Oscars since it has already won Golden Globe and the Critics’ Choice Award.

The final nominees for the Oscars 2023 will be announced at 7 p.m. IST on 24th January.
