Illumination and Universal Pictures Unveil Plans for 'Minions 3' Following 'Despicable Me 4' Success
In the aftermath of the resounding triumph of 'Despicable Me 4', Illumination and Universal Pictures have swiftly moved forward to announce their much-anticipated project, 'Minions 3', slated for release on June 30, 2027.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brian Lynch, acclaimed for his contributions to previous 'Minions' and 'The Secret Life of Pets' installments, will be scripting 'Minions 3'. The film will be once again helmed by Pierre Coffin, the seasoned director behind both the 'Despicable Me' and 'Minions' franchises, renowned for voicing the quirky 'Minions' themselves.
Behind the scenes, overseeing the production will be Illumination's founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri, in collaboration with Bill Ryan, executive producer of 'The Super Mario Bros' Movie.
Since their debut over a decade ago, the 'Minions' have evolved into cultural icons within the realm of animation, playing a pivotal role in the box office success of Illumination's cinematic repertoire. The collective earnings from the 'Despicable Me' and 'Minions' series have soared to nearly USD 5 billion worldwide, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Notably, 'Minions', released in 2015, remains one of the highest-grossing animated films in history. Its sequels, 'Despicable Me 2' and 'Despicable Me 3', each surpassed the USD 1 billion mark, underscoring the enduring popularity of the franchise.
Most recently, 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' made headlines with a groundbreaking opening weekend over the July Fourth holiday, marking another milestone for the beloved characters.
The momentum continues with this year's release of 'Despicable Me 4', which enjoyed a remarkable USD 230 million global opening, solidifying the franchise's prominent position in the animation landscape.
