Deep Sidhu Accident: Truck driver arrested two days post Deep Sidhu's demise

The truck driver who was involved in the traffic accident that killed actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu on Tuesday was apprehended in Nuh on Thursday, according to the police.

Police apprehended the truck driver in the case two days after Punjabi actor and activist Deep Sidhu died in a traffic accident in Sonepat after his Mahindra Scorpio allegedly slammed into a truck on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) route.

Qasim Khan, a resident of hamlet Singar, Nuh, was identified as the driver, according to police. The driver claimed to be moving coal from Ahmedabad to Muzaffarnagar at the time of the accident, according to authorities. The suspect was apprehended on the Delhi Bypass, according to police officials.

The 22-tire truck was on its way from Kandla, Gujarat, to Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, according to Inspector Jaspal Singh, SHO, Kharkhoda.

Surjeet Sidhu, Deep Sidhu's brother, had filed a police complaint at Kharkhoda police station, alleging that the truck driver had applied brakes unexpectedly, causing the accident and killing Sidhu. Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were used to file the FIR (causing death by negligence).

Meanwhile, Deep Sidhu's girlfriend Reena Rai who was also with him during the incident shared a heartfelt note for the late Punjabi singer-actor.
