The Wedding Drama You Didn’t Know: Jahnavi Kapoor’s Wrist-Slashing Attempt to Disrupt Abhishek and Aishwarya’s Wedding

The incident in question takes us back to 2007, during the highly anticipated wedding of Bollywood's power couple, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, which took place at the iconic Bachchan residence, Prateeksha. The event was a spectacle of grandeur, with Aishwarya, the bride, embodying the epitome of celestial beauty in a resplendent golden Kanjivaram saree, adorned with traditional jewellery that highlighted her ethereal charm. Abhishek Bachchan, on the other hand, looked every bit the royal prince in his pristine white sherwani, embodying elegance and sophistication.

As the wedding festivities reached their zenith, an unexpected and controversial episode unfolded outside the Bachchan residence, casting a shadow over the joyous occasion. A model named Jahnavi Kapoor (distinct from the actress Jahnvi Kapoor, daughter of the late Sridevi) made startling claims that she was, in fact, already married to Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Bollywood icons Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan.

Jahnavi Kapoor's assertions sent shockwaves through the media and the public. She took her grievances to the Juhu Police Station, attempting to file a formal complaint against Abhishek. However, due to a lack of substantial evidence to support her claims, the authorities declined to register the case. Many in the industry speculated that Jahnavi's actions were nothing more than a desperate publicity stunt. This belief was strengthened by the fact that she had previously worked alongside Abhishek in the film 'Dus.'

Initially, Jahnavi Kapoor voiced her objections with a semblance of calm. However, as news broke that Abhishek Bachchan had categorically dismissed her allegations, her behaviour took a tragic turn. In a desperate and dramatic bid to prove her love for Abhishek, Jahnavi attempted suicide by slashing her wrist.

The situation quickly escalated as Jahnavi was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. Despite her precarious condition, she continued to assert that Aishwarya Rai had usurped her rightful place as Abhishek's wife. Once her health stabilised, the police charged Jahnavi under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to attempted suicide.

Following her release from custody after paying a fine of ₹10,000, Jahnavi Kapoor disappeared from the public eye. She made no further attempts to contact the Bachchan family or the media, and the incident was largely forgotten as time passed. The wedding of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan proceeded without further incident, and the couple has since remained one of Bollywood’s most revered and enduring duos.
