Ashwatthama is one of the seven chiranjivis that are immortal as per the Hindu scriptures. But little did we know about the other Chiranjivis who are still continuing their life in Kalyug. As Kalki 2898 AD brings Ashwatthama into life, let's have a look at other living immortals as per the Hindu pantheon.

Hinduism is one of the oldest religions that prevails in the laps of Mother Earth. Hinduism is rich and flamboyant with traditions that have been followed for millions of years according to the scriptures. But what is even richer is the religion's riveting literature that speaks volumes about the enthralling tales of goodness and evil, god and demons, and heaven and earth. In fact we are all aware of the scriptures like Ramayana and Mahabharata. These Hindu epics brought the nerve-binding eras to life and all for the right reasons. If you possess an ardent desire for such scriptures, you must be pretty well aware of the term 'Cheeranjivis' that defines a group of immortal individuals that are either blessed or cursed to live on this earth until the end of this current age known as the Kali Yuga. One such sought-after immortal being has become the talk of the town recently through the Bollywood industry as Nag Ashwin's dystopian sci-fi drama brought back Ashwatthama to the living spectrum in the most astonishing way. 

Speaking through lights, Kalki 2898 AD is a modern dystopian sci-fi thriller that draws inspiration from the early Mahabharata and brings Amitabh Bachchan in the iconic avatar of Ashwatthama, the man who was cursed by Lord Vishnu in the Mahabharata's battlefield to stay living and suffer on this earth until Kalki(Vishnu's 10th avatar) takes birth to end the current 'yuga'(age). Meanwhile, Ashwatthama is one of the seven chiranjivis that are immortal as per the scriptures. But little did we know about the other Chiranjivis who are still continuing their life in Kalyug. let's have a look. 

Chiranjivis of the Hindu Pantheon 

Hanuman - Lord Hanuman is one of the most common characters of Ramayana. The Ram Bhakt, Hunaman was known for strong will, power, faith, and devotion to Lord Ram. Ram while departing the earth blessed Lord Hanuman with immortality and asserted that he will continue living on this earth until the Kalpa - destruction of the universe. 

Ved Vyasa - The one who wrote Mahabharata into words, Ved Vyas is said to be an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Well, it is said that Vyasa is an immortal sage from Mahabhrata's yuga who is still living in Badrikashrama, a place where no ordinary man can set foot. 

Parashurama - An another avatar of Lord Vishu, Parahsurama is an ancient sage who is enriched in all astras (divine weapons) and shastras (treatises). According to Hindu literature, he will reemerge at the end of time to be the martial guru of Kalki. He is set to guide Vishu's last avatar Kalki in imbibing celestial weaponry, required to save mankind during the end times. 

Vibhishana - Apart from lord Hanuman of Ramayana, another warrior who is said to be still living is evil Ravana's brother, Vibhishana. Her served his devotion to Lord Rama his entire life and thus received the blessings from the god himself to stay on this earth and serve the people and guide them to the path of truth and dharma.

Mahabali - The king of all Asuras, Mahabali was known for overrunning three realms of the universe and overthrowing Indra. he was however exiled from Pataal lok, hell to restore cosmic order by Lord Visnhu Vamana's avatar and thus blessed with immortality. 

Kripa - The royal guru of the Kauravas, sage Kripacharya was one of the most riveting survivors of the Kaurava warriors who fought in the Kurukshetra War of Mahabharata. With his stronghold in discipline, loyalty, and impartial nature, Kripacharya was blessed with immortality and will remain alive until the end of the Kali Yuga
