Jim Sarbh Clarifies Misunderstood Comments: Says 'Not Directed at Ranveer Singh'
Jim Sarbh addressed and dispelled rumours that his comments regarding certain actors needing 'mental therapy' after playing intense roles were aimed at Ranveer Singh. Both actors co-starred in the acclaimed film "Padmaavat," with Sarbh portraying Malik Kafur and Singh taking on the role of Alauddin Khilji.
On Saturday, June 29, Sarbh took to Instagram to set the record straight. He emphasized his respect for Ranveer Singh, his co-star in "Padmaavat." Sarbh clarified that his comments were meant for actors who overly emphasized their acting methods and were not specifically directed at Singh. He expressed his frustration with the misinterpretation of his words, writing, "I usually don’t respond to speculative videos and articles, because they’re boring and I assume people know better. Of course, just like some of you, I assumed wrong. Too many people have forwarded me things, and now journalists/interviewers are ‘identifying’ me as a ‘critic,’ despite me never having mentioned anyone at all, let alone @ranveersingh."
Sarbh continued, "I find this almost absurd to have to clarify, but since folks are running wild with the videos and the articles: Nothing I said refers to Ranveer Singh. The video byte being shared is from 'Made in Heaven' season 2 promotions, 5 whole years since 'Padmaavat' came out. 5 years I only had lovely things to say about Ranveer as a co-actor—look it up. I still do."
He also explained that his statement was not an attack on the acting process but rather a critique of actors who exaggerate their methods. Ranveer Singh, known for his intense preparation for roles, had previously mentioned isolating himself in his Goregaon home to get into the character of Alauddin Khilji in "Padmaavat," a process that worried him about exiting that dark mindspace.

Sarbh’s clarification follows support for Ranveer Singh from fellow actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Siddiqui questioned the critics without naming anyone, asking if they had tried to understand the actor's process or lifestyle while developing a character. Siddiqui highlighted the challenges of immersing oneself in a character, describing it as a painful process. He criticized those who dismiss this effort, stating that without such dedication, iconic performances like Heath Ledger's in "The Dark Knight" wouldn't be possible. Siddiqui added, "It's easy to make such comments without knowing what the actor experienced."
Looking ahead, Jim Sarbh is set to make his debut in Tollywood with Sekhar Kammula’s "Kubera." The film features prominent actors Dhanush, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nagarjuna in lead roles.
With his recent clarification, Jim Sarbh hopes to put the rumours to rest and continue focusing on his upcoming projects and future endeavours.
