Trusting the authenticity of the provided information, Surbhi proceeded with the booking process. However, what followed was a calculated deception orchestrated by cunning fraudsters. "I requested the individual's GPay number and transferred ₹2,500. Subsequently, he demanded the same amount as a security deposit. When I asked for the registration number, he cited technical issues and urged immediate payment. I insisted on a refund of the transferred amount, asserting my usual ₹5,000 payment. He then engaged another person who shared a barcode with me on WhatsApp," Surbhi elaborated.

The astute actress, however, grew suspicious as the conversation unfolded. She noticed the perpetrator's attempts to delete messages and realized the gravity of the situation. Fortunately, Surbhi's prudent use of GPay on a separate device prevented further monetary loss. Upon closer inspection, it became evident that the website she accessed did not represent the intended guesthouse but was instead a fraudulent scheme preying on unsuspecting victims.

The incident, which unfolded on February 29, prompted Surbhi to take swift action by lodging a formal complaint at the Versova Police Station on March 1. Her proactive approach underscores the importance of reporting such crimes and seeking legal recourse to prevent further victimization.

In her cautionary message to her legion of followers, Surbhi implored, "I trust that appropriate measures will be taken against these perpetrators. I wish to shield others from falling prey to similar scams. I strongly advise everyone to validate the authenticity of websites before engaging in online transactions. Avoid scanning barcodes on WhatsApp, as it could result in the depletion of your funds and leave your account empty. Ultimately, I had to enlist the assistance of a local friend who secured the hotel booking through cash payment."
