In the annals of Hindi cinema, the indelible mark left by the writing duo Salim-Javed during the 1970s and 1980s is unparalleled. Their scripts not only revolutionised the film industry but also played a seminal role in sculpting Amitabh Bachchan's iconic persona as the "angry young man." Now, a documentary titled Angry Young Man is poised to celebrate their enduring legacy, with its trailer unveiled to much anticipation on Tuesday.

The trailer launch was a notable event, graced by the presence of the families of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. The occasion, however, was not without its share of controversy. Salman Khan, the prominent actor and member of the Khan family, took the opportunity to address a long-standing issue regarding the film Kranti.

Salman Khan alleged that Manoj Kumar, the celebrated actor and director of Kranti, had appropriated the credit for the film’s script from Salim-Javed. Describing the situation as akin to "chana jor garam"—a phrase borrowed from a song in the film—Salman Khan made a candid remark about the ongoing dispute. He stated, "Mr. Manoj Kumar claimed the credit for 'Kranti's' script, asserting that he wrote it himself." This assertion, he suggested, was disputed by Farhan Akhtar, who questioned its validity. Salman, reinforcing his claim, proposed the creation of a separate documentary focused on Manoj Kumar to further explore the matter.

Salman Khan's remarks shed light on the complexities surrounding the film’s credits. According to him, while Manoj Kumar directed, edited, and produced Kranti, he had allegedly taken credit for the writing and narration of the film. In contrast, the film's poster officially attributes the story and screenplay to Salim-Javed, while the lyrics are credited to Santosh Anand and Manoj Kumar, and the dialogue to Manoj Kumar.

Farhan Akhtar, who was also present at the event, expressed his admiration for Salman Khan's forthrightness, revealing that he had watched Kranti a staggering 300 times. The film, which boasted a star-studded cast including Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar, and Shashi Kapoor, remains a significant piece of cinematic history.
