The Incident in Florence

On the 10th of July, 2024, what was meant to be an idyllic sojourn in Florence turned into a harrowing experience for Divyanka and Vivek. As revealed in an interview with ETimes, the couple had arrived in the city with plans to stay for a day. During an inspection of a property, they left their belongings in a car parked outside. Upon their return, they discovered that their car had been broken into, and their passports, wallets, money, shopping items, and other valuables had been stolen. Vivek recounted, “Aside from this incident, everything on this trip has been incredible. We arrived in Florence yesterday and planned to stay for a day. We went to check out a property for our stay and left all our belongings in a car parked outside. However, when we returned to collect our belongings, we were shocked to find the car broken into and our passports, wallets, money, shopping items, and all our valuable items gone. Luckily, they left some of our old clothes and food items.”

A Struggle for Assistance

The aftermath of the robbery was exacerbated by the lack of assistance from local authorities. Vivek detailed their futile attempts to seek help from the local police, who, due to a lack of proper evidence, refused to provide the necessary aid. He further highlighted a significant challenge: police stations in Florence close at 6 PM, and no help is available beyond this time. This compounded the couple's difficulties as they also struggled to reach the embassy, which had already closed for the day.
