His entrepreneurial spirit extended to the establishment of Usha Kiran Movies, Mayuri Film Distributors, Margadarsi Chit Fund, and the Dolphin Group of Hotels. He also led the ETV Network, a significant entity in the television landscape.
In recognition of his contributions, Rao was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, in 2016 by then-President Pranab Mukherjee.
