The video accompanying the song features Dhillon performing in Punjabi, with English subtitles that convey his message: “She has saved many lives and souls. God, how could her fate end so tragically? She was not safe even in a place where everyone knew her. Today, we all ask you, is it a curse to be born a girl in this world?” The lyrics also draw a somber parallel to the 2012 Nirbhaya case, underscoring the need for systemic change and accountability.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and protest across India. On August 9, the body of the 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered inside the government-run RG Kar Hospital. The following day, a civic volunteer was arrested in connection with the crime, and the Calcutta High Court has since transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as of August 13.

Bollywood celebrities have also voiced their shock and demanded swift action. Public figures such as Twinkle Khanna, Kangana Ranaut, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Tisca Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Preity Zinta, Richa Chadha, and Swara Bhasker have all spoken out in support of the victim and called for justice.

The victim’s post-mortem report revealed signs of severe physical trauma, including blood from her private parts, eyes, and mouth, suggesting brutal assault and genital torture. As the investigation continues under the CBI, the demand for justice and stronger laws against crimes targeting women remains a pressing issue in the country.
