Farmers Protest 2.0

The protest, dubbed 'Dilli Chalo', continues on the Punjab-Haryana border, marking the fifth day of agitation. On Sunday, Union ministers Arjun Munda, Nityanand Rai, and Piyush Goyal are scheduled to meet farmer leaders for the fourth round of talks. However, the previous three rounds on February 8, 12, and 15 all ended inconclusively.

The protesting farmers have presented a list of 13 demands, with the primary one focusing on a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for their crops. While the government claims to have reached a consensus on 10 demands, the MSPissue remains the biggest sticking point between the two sides. The farmers aspire to hold demonstrations in the national capital but have faced obstruction from the Haryana Police at the Punjab-Haryana borders.

Over 200 farmer groups are actively participating in the protest. Notably, the protest lacks participation from the groups and unions that spearheaded the 2020-21 protests against the three central farm laws. Nonetheless, these groups assert that they could join the agitation if the government continues to impede those wanting to march to Delhi.
