National Doctor's Day: All you need to know about the significance of this day!

National Doctor’s Day is celebrated every year on July 1st by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). This special day is observed in honour of the former Bengal’s Chief Minister Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy.
July 1st is dedicated to all the doctors and healthcare workers who have been serving others while risking their lives. The COVID-19 outbreak has increased the significance of the Doctor’s Day.

The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us about the sacrifices and the contributions made by the healthcare workers and doctors to save the world. However, Doctor’s Day is celebrated on different dates across the world.
A brief History of Doctor’s day
The day was first observed in 1991 in honour of the former Bengal’s Chief Minister Dr BC Roy to embrace his enormous contribution in the medical field. He was born on July 1, 1882, and died on a similar date in 1962.

Significance of Doctor’s day during COVID-19
As the world is going through the COVID-19 outbreak, our medical doctors have been working round the clock to save our lives and risking their own lives. Also, on the occasion of National Doctor’s Day, PM Modi will be addressing the doctor’s community at a program organized by the IMA.
