Meet Simran Kaur Wadhawan: The First Sikh Girl To Join Royal Australian Air Force

It’s time that people realize that women are no less than men whether it is about flying jets or being a leader.  Meanwhile, 17-years old Simran Kaur Wadhawan is making her community proud around the world. She is the first Sikh girl, to join Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a Cadet. She was officially welcomed into the RAAF at a ceremony in Perth in January 2019.

She received a three week Defence training to start with, which went on till February 23. Currently she is going through her studies at the Australian Defence Force Academy for 3 years. After which, she will work for RAAF in a leadership role.

Simran is proud to come this far and achieve her dream by following Sikh principles. She will be representing the Sikh community in an area which is represented by very few Sikh males and no other girl.

Her parents have been supportive since the beginning. Her father helped her to build her strengths and confidence, while her mother helped her with all the qualifications. Simran began working on the process of joining RAAF since the age of 15.

She was also honoured by Sikh Gurdwara Perth for her outstanding achievement of being first Sikh Girl to be directly selected for Australian Defence Force Academy.
