The Significance of Bhai Dooj

During his visit, Yami warmly welcomed her brother by applying a tilak on his forehead and preparing special delicacies. Touched by her love and compassion, Yamaraj granted her a wish to have him return every year. Yami also advised sisters to perform similar ceremonies and apply tilak without fearing the god of death. This day is also known as 'Yama Dwitiya' in South India.

Another tale narrates Lord Krishna's visit to his sister Subhadra after defeating the demon Narakasura. Subhadra marked the occasion by applying a tilak on Krishna's forehead, and since then, this day has been celebrated as Bhai Dooj.
