Janmashtami 2021: India is a multi - cultural country. Janmashtami – the day Lord Krishna was born – is one of the most widely observed and celebrated festivals. Krishna Janmashtami and Gokulashtami are other names for Janmashtami. In India, this is observed on the eighth day of the dark fortnight of July-August (Sravana).

History of Janmashtami
According to popular Hindu mythology, Krishna was the human incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He was born to kill the evil king of Mathura, Kansa, who was the brother of Krishna’s mother, Devaki. However, he was taken to Nand Baba and Yashodha in Vrindavan so that Kansa doesn’t kill him.
Krishna grew up in Vrindavan and was completely unaware of the situation. When he was old enough, he discovered the truth and went straight to Mathura. He killed Kansa and was reunited with his birth parents, Devaki and Vasudeva.

Hindus all over the world celebrate the Janmashtami festival with great zeal. Shri Krishna is one of Lord Vishnu's most powerful human incarnations, according to mythology. Lord Krishna is one such god in Hindu mythology, and much has been written about his birth and death. People have been worshipping Shri Krishna as God's son since he was born in human form on Earth.

Janmashtami falls on August 30th this year. Devotees commemorate this auspicious occasion by remembering the past and praying to Lord Krisha. People decorate their homes with diyas, lights, and flowers on this day. Candles, diyas, flowers, and songs praising Lord Krishna are also used to decorate temples.
