Kangana Ranaut, known for her boldness and outspoken nature, has recently made headlines with her candid revelations about her life and career. As both a celebrated actress and a rising politician, Ranaut’s perspectives on Bollywood are often at odds with the glamorous facade commonly associated with the industry.
Kangana Compares Her Struggles With Shah Rukh Khan
In a recent interview on Raj Shamani's podcast, Ranaut drew comparisons between her journey and that of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. She claimed that her path to success was fraught with greater challenges than Khan’s. Ranaut highlighted the contrasts in their backgrounds: while Shah Rukh Khan came from a well-educated family and attended a convent school in Delhi, Ranaut’s upbringing was starkly different. She shared, "His mother was a magistrate. He comes from a family that speaks good English, he came from a convent. From Delhi to Mumbai, it’s not much of a difference. But I came from a village and I’m a girl and I came as a teenager. Meri journey aur bhi difficult hoti hai."
Despite acknowledging that Shah Rukh Khan faced personal tragedies with the loss of his parents, Ranaut emphasized the unique hardships she endured.
Ranaut also took the opportunity to address persistent rumors about her career beginnings. She debunked the widely circulated story that director Anurag Basu discovered her at a café in Mumbai. According to Ranaut, this narrative was a PR stunt to promote her debut film, Gangster. She stated, "I gave many auditions, and then I got selected for Gangster. Aisa kuch nahi hua ki mujhe road pe paya gaya,” adding, “PR ka brain hota hai wo sab."
Views on Bollywood Social CirclesWhen discussing her relationships within Bollywood, Ranaut did not hold back. She expressed her inability to form friendships within the industry, describing Bollywood personalities as self-absorbed and lacking depth. She quotes, “I can’t be friends with Bollywood people for sure. They are so full of themselves. They are stupid, dumb and all about protein shakes. I have seen enough Bollywood people to know that.” She elaborated further, saying they are “like grasshoppers, totally blank. How can you be friends with such people? They have no idea what’s going on where. They have no (meaningful) conversations."
Upcoming ProjectsKangana Ranaut is now shifting focus to her forthcoming biographical political drama, Emergency. This film marks her debut as an independent director and features her in the lead role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The movie, which also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, and Satish Kaushik, is set to release on September 6.
