The announcement of the film's new release date comes a month after the big-budget film's first teaser, which garnered strong criticism for the visual effects' quality and its presentation of Hindu deities.
In response to the criticism, Raut had spoken candidly during the special teaser showing, declaring that the movie was "meant for the big screen."
Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan all play major roles in the movie as Ram, Sita, and Ravana, respectively. It's claimed that "Adipurush" was made with a sizable budget.
Om Raut confirming the film’s new release date stated, “Adipurush is not a film, but a representation of our devotion to Prabhu Sri Ram and commitment towards our Sanskriti and history. In order to give a complete visual experience to the viewers, we need to give more time to the teams working on the film. Adipurush will now release on June 16, 2023. We are committed to make a film that India is proud of. Your support, love and blessings is what keeps us going.”
