25 years of 'Pardes': Subhash Ghai reveals first choice for Kusum's character was Madhuri Dixit

'Pardes' completes 25 years: Shah Rukh Khan, Mahima Chaudhary and Apurva Agnihotri's classic-cult-drama 'Pardes' has completed 25 years in Bollywood. The film, which was directed by Subhash Ghai, still remains fresh courtesy of unique story of the film.

In a recent interview, Subhash Ghai talked about the journey of 25 years of 'Pardes'. He also said that Mahima Chaudhary was not the first choice for the role of 'Kusum' but Madhuri Dixit was.

Yes, Subhash Ghai, in a recent conversation, revealed that Madhuri Dixit was the first choice for the Kusum's character which was later portrayed by Mahima Chaudhary.

In a statement, director Subhash Ghai said that he initially told Madhuri Dixit about the plot of the film 'Pardes' before deciding to cast a fresh face rather than a well-known name.

Ghai exclaimed that he was happy that his baby was celebrating its silver anniversary and continues to receive unwavering admiration from the public even after 25 years.

Subhash Ghai added that he had briefed Madhuri on the script as she had already achieved stardom. Madhuri cherished the tale but he changed his mind after seeing Kusum's personality.

She has a childlike personality and was surrounded by her younger siblings, he said, adding that she was thrilled when her marriage was fixed, not realising what she was entering into.

He said that he thought that it would be impossible to obtain that innocence through a star.
